R. Patrick Martin’s practice includes general liability and workers’ compensation defense in both North Carolina and South Carolina. He is licensed in all South Carolina State and Federal Courts and in North Carolina State Courts. He has tried a total of 20 cases between the South Carolina Court of Common Pleas, Family Court, various magistrates’ courts, and the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission.
Education & Experience
Patrick graduated from Erskine College in 2007 with a B.S. in Chemistry. Patrick received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina and has been in practice since 2011. While at USC, Patrick worked as a law clerk in a small plaintiff’s firm for two and a half years. He was a member of the Mock Trial team and participated in the annual Southeastern Regional American Association for Justice Tournament in Alabama on behalf of the school. Prior to Eller Tonnsen Bach, Patrick worked at McAngus Goudelock & Courie (a mid-to-large multi-state firm focusing on insurance defense).
At McAngus Goudelock & Courie, Patrick participated in several workers’ compensation defense cases on behalf of Bi-Lo. His premises liability experience (outside the workers’ compensation context) includes passing/transient chemical exposure, slip/trip and fall cases, and injury by employee negligence.
When not at the office, Patrick is spending time with his wife Julie, daughter Katy, and son Jack. He enjoys golf, winemaking, and home renovation.
