Attorney Rochelle Bellamy Mayfield
Experienced workers’ compensation defense lawyer in North Carolina
Education and Experience
When attorney Rochelle Mayfield was an elementary school student in Charlotte, she wrote a biography expressing her childhood dreams of being a cheerleader and a lawyer. Not only was she on the cheering squad in middle and high school, but she started her law career early. Through a high school internship program, she began working as a mailroom assistant at a local law firm. She pursued her dream of becoming a lawyer at North Carolina Central University School of Law and received her juris doctor in 2007.
Rochelle represents insurance carriers, self-insured businesses, and employers in a wide range of business sectors including, but not limited to food services, trucking and transportation, manufacturing and healthcare. She also represents local municipalities. Her practice involves all areas of workers’ compensation defense, including, but not limited to, injury by accident and specific traumatic incident claims, occupational disease claims and death claims.
Prior to joining Eller Tonnsen Bach, Rochelle served as special counsel at an insurance defense firm in Charlotte where she defended workers’ compensation claims for employers and carriers throughout North Carolina for more than twelve years.
Rochelle custom tailors her approach to each case by focusing on an individual client’s needs and goals, whether it involves an early resolution or strong defense at hearing. She regularly appears before the North Carolina Industrial Commission and frequently gives continuing education presentations to clients on various topics of interest in the area of workers’ compensation.
Rochelle enjoys volunteering with Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she provides monthly consultations in the areas of employment and consumer law. She also regularly volunteers with the NCBA’s 4ALL Statewide Service Day, and the Hands On Charlotte Annual Attorney Service Day.
Family is important to Rochelle and her husband Diarra. They enjoy spending time with their daughter Nyla and other family members who live close by. Her husband is a well-known Charlotte DJ (“The Mighty DJ DR”) who often spins tunes at local venues. In her spare time, Rochelle enjoys going to the movies, shopping, traveling to warm destinations, and cheering for the Carolina Panthers.

“I have worked with Rochelle on a very difficult case that has been ongoing for several years. Her persistence in keeping things moving and her challenging of plaintiff’s counsel have shown that she is not afraid to do what it takes to get results.”
